Hi there!

I was upgrading/moving some VMs yesterday for a new pair of servers running Halizard NoSAN and I was wondering if is there any problem of running some VMs with HA enabled on the noSAN iSCSI created by Halizard and also having other VMs running just on separated additional Local Storage without HA.

These new servers have much more processing power and RAM, but storage is running low and its expensive at the moment, so I would allocate some non critical VMs without the synced/shared storage (Xen Orchestra, some virtual desktops that I only use for maintenance and tests).

Hi there!

I've installed Halizard NoSAN on to a new pair of servers recently, running the latest XCP-ng. The install went without any noticeable error, iscsi is running fine, drbd is running fine, so I imported the VMs without checking the Ha-Lizard part, only to find out that it's just not there :)

Is it safe to just run the ha-lizard installer now?

This may look like (or really be) a silly question, but I honestly couldn't came to a safe conclusion reading the docs/forum and I only had experiences installing halizard nosan on fresh hosts, without anything running on it.

Hello,
we use this great program on two DELL servers, so far without error - but now I would like to ask for help on a technical issue.
We need to move both servers to another server room at the same time, plus we would expand the memory.
I did not find any info about this in the documentation or in the forum.
Can somebody tell me what is the recommended procedure for a complete shutdown?
If I turn off HA and then shut down, when restart the system I need to make restore from the last snapshot because the VMs are compromited.

Could you provide some guidance please?

Hi,
Last week, we had to replace the network card in one of our XenServers 7.6
After restarting the repaired machine, we had problems to get the Storage repository from HA-Lizard working.
We finally had to adjust the iscsi config, to match up with the new network card.
Since then, we are not able to set the ha-cfg in HA mode. I can do it on the master, but the other node will stay as HA disabled.

Any ideas how to solve this issue?
Your help on this is appreciated.

RAID0 disk failure on slave host - by: ajmind

Hello Salvatore,

one of our HA-Lizard 2node Cluster had a disk failure of the iSCSI DRDB storage.
As a result the slave node is now in diskless state.
The failing disk was replaced but all data on the local LVM device is gone as it was configured as RAID0.

Have you any advise what would be the best approach after the reboot of the slave?

just done a fresh install on xen server 8.2 but iscsi-ha is not starting . getting error below in logs
i used install script halizard_nosan_installer_2.1.7

I've just set up a basic 2-node noSAN cluster with xcp-ng 8.1 (following the reference design for XenServer 7, with minor differences - one dedicated 10 Gb SFP+ DAC link between the servers for replication, instead of two bonded 1 Gb). So far so good.
Now, I'm considering adding another one or two hosts to that pool. There would be no HA for less critical VMs running on the added hosts, just like a traditional XenServer setup with shared storage - except that the shared storage would be provided by the first 2 hosts with HA, instead of the dedicated expensive shared RAID array.
Not sure how to best handle the floating IP on the dedicated link that would now have to be available "from outside" to the other hosts, but it should work as Linux has a "weak host model" by default (see RFC1122 for strong/weak ES discussion).
Any dangers of such a setup to watch out for?

Hello Masters,

how are you there.

I'm trying to get the razon why my cluster sent this message to me:


It is random, but usually 3-4 times by day. In the forum, the only topic about this, recommend to increase the xapi-timeout to 15 seconds.
Any other idea where I can look ?? The servers have a load <= 1.1.. so I don't think that is a load problem.

Note: looking the logs and code, I found this code in the file "ha-lizard.func"



What is the idea of the line 645 there ?? passing the VM_UUID to get information from a pool don't look correct to me !!??

PS: ha-lizard-2.2.3-1.noarch and iscsi-ha-2.2.4-1.noarch
